Fynch is looking for employers for CO2 budget pilot

The Dutch are positive about a personal CO2 budget system to reduce CO2 emissions.

TNO investigated this in 2021 among a representative group of Dutch and it turns out that about 67% is positive if “it is not too much hassle”, “it is fair” and “companies pay more for their CO2 emissions than they do now”. Reason enough to test this in practice! Fynch is looking for employers who want to experiment with introducing a personal CO2 budget for mobility among their employees.

CO2 budget fact or fiction?

Sustainability is becoming increasingly important now that the climate targets are tightened every year and the government wants to gain more insight into the mobility-related CO2 consumption per company.

For example, from 1 January 2023, companies are obliged to annually report all work-related passenger mobility of the previous year. To this end, the kilometers per modality and specified for home-work and business trips must be stated.

The ultimate goal is to achieve a reduction target of 1 Megaton CO2 (collective) by 2030. An annual gradual path has been mapped out with an associated emission ceiling to achieve this target. If the total CO2 emissions exceed this established ceiling, there will be a mandatory CO2 mobility budget for individual employers.

To achieve this collective goal, all employers and employees will have to make a personal effort to make mobility policy more sustainable.

What does a business CO2 mobility budget entail?

A business CO2 mobility budget is also known as an emissions budget or carbon budget. This is the maximum amount of CO2 a person is allowed to emit for a fixed period.

There is a free choice of how the CO2 budget is spent. Employees can choose how they travel every day. The number of kilometers driven is registered and a CO2 price tag is attached to this, which influences the CO2 budget.

Are you going over it? Then you have to pay extra. If you stay below it, you make money. The extra money you can earn is an important motivator to change behavior. The compensation that may have to be paid is a barrier to actually exhibiting sustainable travel behaviour. Fynch wants to link this compensation to a good cause, so that it is spent in a sustainable way.

A quick and easy solution

How do you make your mobility policy sustainable? How much CO2 is my company currently emitting in terms of mobility? How much extra time will it take me to map this out?

These are all questions for which Fynch Mobility has a solution that is easy to implement.

By automatically registering all commuting, business and private journeys in the Fynch Mobility App, the employee gets an overview of the total CO2 emissions.

Employees can then indicate in the Fynch App whether the journey was commuting, business or private. Whether you travel by car, public transport or bicycle, every form of transport is automatically recognized.

The App automatically calculates the amount of CO2 emitted. If you have submitted your number plate, the App can even track whether you drive electric, petrol or diesel. This is then included in the CO2 calculation.

At the end of each month, the employee can generate (manually or automatically) an export for the declaration of all his or her business trips, commuting and home working days. The CO2 emissions per month are calculated on the basis of the monthly declaration.

Fynch’s mission is to save 500,000 tons of CO2 annually by 2025. A business CO2 mobility budget could contribute well to this.

We are looking for employers who want to join us in this sustainable experiment. Together we draw up the ‘rules of the game’ and determine an internal CO2 price. If an employee exceeds the CO2 budget, a fine may have to be paid. This fine will consist of a donation to a good cause. For example, it feels like fair compensation to the employee and this fine is not returned to the employer. In this way it remains fair, easy and the employer also pays for his/her emissions.

Register now for the pilot and we will contact you as soon as possible!
