Case Censo

In the Netherlands, 27% of all CO2 emissions are caused by mobility. Almost half of these emissions are work-related. Companies often want to take responsibility for reducing those emissions. However, tax regulations regarding tax-free reimbursement of business kilometers and working days at home increase the administrative burden for employer and employee.

The mission-driven Censo, which makes commercial real estate more sustainable throughout the Netherlands, has decided, partly on the basis of its impact target ‘Business Netherlands CO2-neutral by 2030’, to review the mobility policy for its 150 employees. The aim was to arrive at an arrangement that is fair, flexible and practicable.

There is now a future-proof and sustainable scheme, which has been drawn up in close collaboration with Bliq Mobility. The scheme provides the employee with a homework allowance in combination with a variable travel allowance. The latter means that the employee receives a higher kilometer allowance for sustainable kilometers, such as cycling.

Fynch is proud that it can support Censo with its innovative mobility platform in achieving the objectives of the new mobility scheme. The Fynch platform facilitates employees to automatically register and declare business travel, commuting and home work expenses. This saves a lot of time and prevents errors and annoyance. At the same time, Censo gains insight into the CO2 footprint of their mobility and employees are encouraged to make sustainable and vital choices through the Fynch behavioral change program.

We asked Jip Veelenturf, HR manager at Censo about Censo’s new mobility policy:

Why set up a new regulation now?

“That was for three reasons. Firstly, the changing tax legislation, secondly, the imminent introduction of the sustainable mobility reporting obligation and thirdly, our own sustainability agenda.”

Why choose Fynch Mobility?

“With Fynch we kill three birds with one stone: administrative relief, insight into mobility behavior and reduction of our CO2 footprint by stimulating sustainable and vital travel. With this combined approach, Fynch made a difference compared to other initiatives. What also played a role for us is that the application is 100% AVG proof and that Fynch has certified its information management system ISO 27001.

How do you facilitate employees in sustainable mobility?

“We offer our employees an NS BusinessCard, which allows unlimited business travel. In addition, we give employees a higher kilometer allowance for bicycles and from now on they can only lease electric vehicles when concluding a new lease agreement.”

How did the implementation of the Fynch solution go?

“The implementation of Fynch consists for the most part of coordinating how the declared data is entered in the payroll processing and at the correct cost center. Fynch is very flexible in this and really thinks along with you, which has resulted in us quickly arriving at a workable solution. In addition, Fynch advised to train a number of super-users, which also worked out well during the go-live of the app.”

Do you have any advice for other companies?

“Whatever your goal is, you won’t achieve it without the employee. My advice is therefore to build in positive incentives that ensure that employees move from ‘should’ to ‘want’. For us, CO2 reduction is an important objective, so we offer, for example, a higher kilometer allowance for bicycles. The great thing about the Fynch platform is that you can really adjust this to your wishes and objectives.”

More about Censo

Censo makes it easier to make buildings more sustainable and thus accelerates the energy transition with the aim of preventing the irreversible consequences of climate change. The company focuses on commercial real estate and unburdens companies from A to Z in complete energy management and CO2 reduction. That starts with creating insight into energy consumption and an appropriate plan for possible measures: the roadmap to a CO2-neutral building. Censo can then help with the realization, including financing and obtaining subsidies. If desired, Censo can also take care of management and maintenance. Prefer to start smaller? That is also possible. Censo has attractive solutions for energy monitoring, charging stations and solar panels. More information: www.censo.nl.
